Trevilley Farm

Calving and Lambing has begun!

News Date:
February 2010

We started lambing this week – a sure sign that the days are getting warmer and the daylight is lasting longer!

We also had a bull calf today.

He is less than two hours old in this photo. He is still wobbly on his feet and his umbilical cord is still visible.

Elsewhere on the farm, Farmer Jim has been laying manure on the field outside the shop – apologies for the smell if you were in at this time! He then ploughed the ground in preparation for beans to be planted.
Gill has been planting beetroot, salad onions and lettuce in the tunnel. We hope these will be ready before the summer. The salad leaves are doing well and will be ready for sale in the coming weeks.

We were a little worried how Nigella the pig would fare after the loss of Delia. Rather surprisingly she seems a lot happier and has much more a spring in her step (despite her size!). Clearly Delia was a bully!

In the shop Chef Clare made some Chocolate Fudge Pudding. Yummy! We have a few left in the freezer.

We also have another different supplier of free-range chicken – Keith Wickett. He will be our sole supplier and will be supplying us with whole birds, breast and leg and thigh. The whole birds are smaller (larger ones are also available) and more reasonably priced. We hope you like them – we certainly enjoyed the taste test!

We have also had new stocks of honey in.

Apologies from Luke at the Cornish Seafood Co. if you have been in to see him over the past couple of weeks only to find him not here. He has been unwell, but is now fully recovered and will be here every Tuesday 12 – 3pm.

Green Room Ales have two new ales which will be available for sale this week:
Rogue - “A 7.5% beer. Slightly dark in appearance with a deep fruity aroma”
Icon - “A 4% beer with a light fruity base and very pale appearance”

A little way off, but don’t forget that Easter is early this year on 4th April.
We will be selling a variety of beautiful eggs from Trenance Chocolate and we are now taking orders for their personalised eggs.
